My Name is Khan is indubitably one of the most meaningful and moving films to be rolled out from the Bollywood mills in recent times. The film takes on an expansive canvas: 9/11, post 9/11, racial abuse, draconian homeland security laws, a hysterical US jurisprudence, hurricane Katrina....Yet, it rarely loses focus -- just here and there, post-interval -- and remains primarily the story of a good man who wants to live in a good world with good people around him. The film is brimming over with scenes that relentlessly move you to tears, not because they are sad, but because they are uplifting, inspirational and just sometimes heart-rending. Performance-wise, this undoubtedly towers as Shah Rukh's best act. He never once loses grip on his character, despite the mannerisms, the awkward body language and the distinct speech style. Definitely, this one's a few miles ahead of even Tom Hank's Forrest Gump. Kajol's Mandira is a complete winner, with the actor pitching in such a restrained act in one of the most difficult scenes of the film, she simply blows you away.

On the whole, MY NAME IS KHAN is a fascinating love story, has an angle of religion and a world-shaking incident as a backdrop. It not only entertains, but also mesmerises, enthrals and captivates the viewer in those 2.40 hours. At the same time, a film like MY NAME IS KHAN is sure to have a far-reaching influence due to its noble theme. I strongly advocate, don't miss this one! In MY NAME IS KHAN, the storyteller attempts to make a social statement and succeeds completely. At the same time, it takes no sides. If the protagonist says 'My name is Khan and I am not a terrorist', it also exposes those who misadvise the youth with inflammatory and rabble-rousing speeches. Karan's take on the issue deserves the highest praise, since a subject like this is difficult to attempt. Final word? MY NAME IS KHAN is Karan, SRK and Kajol's best outing to date. Do I need to add anything more?

Karan Johar’s plea for global secularism,in the wake of the 9/11 devastation ,brims over with quite a few emotionally stirring punctuation marks. The entire text, alas, is neither convincing nor insightful. Like it or not, the subject required at least a patina of gritty realism and an experiential howl of protest. Instead, the result is more gloss than solid substance.Honestly, of all Johar’s scripts, this one takes far too many potshots in the dark. (Incidentally, the solo credit for the writing goes to Shibani Bhatija, thank you very much). Devoid of truly dramatic conflict, the written material is lean on ideas, culminating in a finale that’s a mega-mess.So, why the four stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol – bring them together – and any filmmaker’s job is already accomplished. Their gift for raising ordinary material to the extraordinary is sheer delight. Never mind. At the end of 18 reels, you do carry something precious home – SRK and Kajol. They are absolutely electric. Undoubtedly, they don’t make’em like that anymore. And never will, which is why MNIK is absolutely compulsory viewing. You may have problems with it. Yet it is a must-must-see.

Karan Johar touches the now-traditional theme of the aftermath of 9/11 and the victimized Muslim with simplicity and sensitivity in My Name is Khan . Within the range that the global-issue offers, the film still doesn’t attempt to go out of the world in its treatment, resorting to the regular conflicts already exploited in the genre. But where Karan Johar succeeds is in making Shah Rukh Khan underplay his character like never before and mellow down the human drama with as much positivity that a film with a backdrop as intense as 9/11 ends up being feel-good with an optimistic outlook.

Enormous in its goals and large scale in sentimentality, Shibani Bathija's ambitious script aims to pass the illusion of greatness by constructing Khan as some kind of an icon and epic, a Forrest Gump-inspired character. Like Tom Hanks, he takes the lesson of goodness to heart and shares a similar level of relationship with his mother. But Bathija's theory of idealism is blown up with such excessive melodrama thereafter; it gets to the point of being stagy and implausible. The basic purpose his Asperger's Syndrome state serves the story is to remind the extent of pragmatism and cynicism we have given into as opposed to his perceivably naïve 'good wins over evil under all circumstances' stance. When he employs this approach to hang out with the people in his new home in America or woo the plucky lady at the salon (Kajol), it's inspiring.Having said that, MNIK is not a bad film by any stretch. In fact it's quite terrific, except only in fragments. And that is a big downer.

My Name is Khan is a film made with sincerity and sweat, ambition and conviction. It grapples with the most urgent and fraught issue facing humanity: religion. It features a striking performance by Shah Rukh Khan.It has some scenes, especially one involving a child’s death that will bruise you. Yet despite all this, My Name is Khan never becomes the empowering, inspiring Forest Gump-like epic it aspires to be.Because the connective tissue tying it together is deeply flawed and in places, embarrassingly naive.I recommend that you see Khan for him. The film itself is too uneven to give us the emotional high we were waiting for. THREE STARS

The film of course crushes the most popular post-9/11 prejudices of our times. The case isn’t new. Which is that while most global terrorists may be Muslims - all Muslims aren’t terrorists. And that no religion, including Islam, preaches violence against the innocent.Forrest Gump in its scope, Rain Man in its approach, slightly convenient in its ‘Bollywood opera’, world-class in its photographic treatment (Ravi K Chandran), more sorted than Kurban (from the same producer, along a similar theme); you can sense, throughout, honesty in the film’s purpose. There is least empathy for a problem you haven’t faced yourself. This film expresses that well. Being looked down as Muslim is at some level a global reality. Prejudices are part of human DNA, Americans being no exceptions

The direction of Karan Johar is brilliant in this nearer to reality flick. Now, no one can say that Karan Johar brand of cinema is limited to mushy romances for the NRI audiences. Karan has shown great courage in choosing a topic which was not his forte but he has come out with a winning product, no two opinions about that.Shah Rukh Khan, who plays the character of Rizvan Khan in the flick, is brilliant to say the least. Kajol surpasses even Shah Rukh Khan in some sequences. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol are at their best in this nearer- to- reality flick from Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.

Shahrukh Khan watch in MNIK from museum, ring from Gauri Khan

Shah Rukh Khan, the badshah of bollywood who could have afforded any expensive watch and ring for his character Rizwan Khan in Karan Johar’s upcoming mega-budget flick ‘My Name Is Khan’ opposite Kajol, has worn the ring given by wife Gauri on his wedding.

King Khan considers Gauri as his most auspicious women, and hence when Karan Johar asked him to model the character of Rizwan Khan on his own, he unhesitatingly preferred Gauri’s ring than any other designer ring in the film.

Even the watch that Rizwan Khan wears in the film is a vintage watch of 1920s taken from the museum of the company that Shah Rukh Khan endorses. King Khan was ethical enough not to wear any other brand in the film and asked for a 1920’s piece from them, and they were gracious enough to supply it for the shooting purposes
